Green light for Ambassador plans

The Pasadena City Council gave the go ahead last night for the massive new development at what used to be Ambassador College (Janette Williams,
PSN
). It sounds like everyone could emerge from this happy: the council recommended shrinking the enormous senior project some, Dorn Platz will donate the Great Lawn as a park (paying for its upkeep in perpetuity), and the Affordable Housing Bunny will have a place to stay, with several dozen units being allocated to moderate to very low income residents. The West Pasadena Residents Association is raising no objections and nearly three quarters of the open space will remain after the whole project is complete.

Frankly, it sounds like a great development. It's not unreasonable to be concerned about increased traffic (though hosting seniors should limit the impact on surrounding streets), but the given the reduced size of the whole project, it's hard to see just how one could complain.

Of course, this could just be another case of Bill Bogaard concealing the nefarious elements of this project, obliterating any mention of controversy with statements like, "Mayor Bill Bogaard said he expected the design commission to 'work hard with the developer to optimize the design features for this project.'"

Either way, drop us a line, comments or email, if you've got reason to believe we should be lying in front of the bulldozers at the new Ambassador development.
