Blackmail!?! Negative Campaigning in Claremont [Updated]

Before you are even officially running for office? I think that's the theme of this strange outburst (Will Bigham, DB) at a recent Claremont City Council meeting. Too bad we don't have any online video. (Claremont does offer live audio webcasts of city council meetings). What we do have is the Claremont Insider's account.

Meanwhile, Trevor Hunnicutt writes an article in the Pomona College paper about how Claremont candidates are trying to woo the college vote. This is all well and good, except for the fact that college kids don't vote: "Though definitive numbers on voter turnout among students is difficult to ascertain, candidates continue to encourage student participation in local government issues and seek the student votes. However, while many Claremont residents were in attendance, only a handful of students were at the forum..." Indeed.

Finally, the Johnson's Pasture issue (Will Bigham, DB) continues to bother everyone involved for various reasons. Plenty more over at Claremont Insider.

This Tuesday, the Claremont City Council plans on making a wacky kind of move. They will not be making any ruling on Medical Marijuana. Instead, they will be introducing an ordinance regarding the prohibition of businesses that contravene state and/or federal law. Way to go Mayor Yao!
