Family Friendly La Verne II

The Daily Bulletin weighs in on the recent blunder in family-friendly La Verne:

At the risk of being ignored as the city attorney was, we'll offer Johnson a little advice: If you're trying to fend off the appearance of having a conflict of interest, perhaps basing your case on the opinion of a close relative is not the best way to do it.

If you don't recall what councilman Steve Johnson did, read my old post here. After a little research, my understanding is that at the end of the day, this was not a nefarious plot so much as a dumb mistake. Thing is, this proves my point in that original post.

Nothing illegal is going on in La Verne to my knowledge, and even if one granted that the City Council there does a near perfect job, over time it is very easy for small towns with the same personages in power to get a little lax; a little loose in the belt and soft in the tummy. That's where local media and the buzzing gadflies that local electeds love to hate come in. In this instance, I'm pretty sure councilman Johnson has learned his lesson. Things will move on and La Verne will be even better for it.

Richard McKee, as President of Californian's Aware, has written a bit about that recent local law enforcement audit I pointed you to a few weeks ago. He actually lives in La Verne and has had some involvement with this recent Steve Johnson business.
