Internets Volunteering in Sierra Madre

A recent LA Times piece by Angie Green celebrated Sierra Madre's "spirit of volunteerism." Fair enough, but the article also mentions the story I pointed you towards recently: Sierra Madre police officers don't like making less than all the other cities in Los Angeles county. Molly R. Okeon of the SGV Tribune reports that Sierra Madre "police officers are getting a raise for the first time in four years, though not on their terms."

Resident Kevin Dunn expressed his disappointment to the council, calling the city's offer "a pretty lousy contract for a cop to work in this town."

He noted that the council had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for consultants over the years for projects like the Downtown Specific Plan, money that he said could have gone to the city's police force.

YouTube user migwell1957 posts the video of Dunn's comments, albeit with some disparaging comments of his/her own:

The Sierra Madre Weekly's Erica Blodgett has lots more on the issue. The Mt. Wilson Observer sports a front page Katina Dunn article entitled "City Puts the Squeeze on Police." The "Downtown Dirt" website has an op-ed (also disparaging Mr. Dunn) and a front page summary of the issue. I'm sure the Cumquat has weighed in somewhere.

But, of course, for Claremonsters, small cities like Sierra Madre are no doubt great examples of how the internets really doesn't have much to do with local politics, right? Heh. Despite the fact that everyone knows your name in Sierra Madre, I can hardly keep track of all the damn Sierra Madre sites and info on the web.
